Rookie boy band Nowadays has made a splash in the K-pop scene with its debut, marking the beginning of an ambitious journey. With its eponymous debut album, Nowadays aims to establish itself as another strong force in the industry.

Comprised of members Hyeonbin, Yoon, Yeonwoo, Jinhyuk, and Siyun, Nowadays lies under the Cube Entertainment umbrella, the talent agency known for producing successful K-pop groups such as 4Minute, (G)I-DLE and LIGHTSUM.

The group’s debut marks Cube’s first venture into a new boy group in a whopping eight years after PENTAGON.

Apparently brimming with anticipation, the quintet took to the stage at the Blue Square Mastercard Hall, Yongsan District, Seoul, Tuesday, for a press event, marking the beginning of its musical career.

The group’s leader, Hyeonbin said debuting an idol “feels surreal after dreaming of becoming an idol for so long,” adding, “We’ve poured our hearts into preparing for our debut, so we’re ready to meet the expectations fans have about us.”

Siyun echoed the sentiment, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to debut under his agency.

“Being part of a major agency like Cube Entertainment still feels unreal. We’re committed to living up to our company’s expectations and making a global impact,” he said.

Nowadays aims to carve out a unique identity in the competitive K-pop landscape with its music, a newly crafted genre the members described as “DAYS-POP.”

The members said the musical style offers “a blend of powerful performances and accessible sounds that seamlessly integrate into everyday life.”

“Our DAYS-POP genre is geared toward offering music that resonates with everyone, no matter the time or place. It encapsulates our distinctive style exclusive to our group,” Yoon said.

The team’s debut title track, “OoWee,” exemplifies the essence of DAYS-POP with its soulful melodies and hip-hop elements, capturing the magic of falling in love.

What sets Nowadays apart is the versatility of its members, as they showcase outstanding skills in vocals, rap and dance. Hyeonbin, in particular, honed his talents through his participation in the audition show “Produce X 101” in 2019.

“I’ve grown both mentally and skills-wise over the years leading up to our debut. Meeting my fellow members and training together reinforced my determination to succeed,” Hyeonbin said.

Jinhyuk and Siyun contributed their talents to the group’s debut album by participating in writing the lyrics.

“Our involvement in writing the lyrics for songs ‘OoWee’ and ‘Ticket’ allowed us to bring our own perspectives to the music,” Jinhyuk said.

“We imagined becoming a character that suits the theme of each song … It was a collaborative effort with Siyun, and we’re proud of the result.”

As it begins its journey in the K-pop industry, Nowadays looks forward to creating lasting memories with its fans. In an adorable, quirky manner, Siyun shared his dream of skydiving with fans someday.

“Skydiving with fans while holding each other’s hands would be an unforgettable experience. It’s a dream I hope to fulfill in the future,” Siyun said.
